ABSTRACT

Rahmania Khoirun Niswah K2217066. EXPLORING INTERNATIONAL TEACHING PRACTICUM IN MALAYSIAN SUPPLEMENTARY SPEAKING CLASS: A NARRATIVE INQUIRY. Thesis, Surakarta: English Education Department at Faculty of Teachers Training and Education, Sebelas Maret University, January 2022.

International Teaching Practicum (ITP) can be described as a forum that is generally more successful at pre-service training teachers for culturally mixed classrooms while also providing experience and opportunities to develop in the teaching profession. The purpose of this study was to discover: (1) the researcher's experience during the International Teaching Practicum in the Malaysian Supplementary Speaking Classroom, and (2) the difficulties the researcher faced during the International Teaching Practicum. The narrative inquiry approach was used to perform this qualitative study in 2019. This research focuses on the experience of becoming a teacher as a learner of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in an English as a Second Language (ESL) class. The findings revealed that the researcher enhanced the language skills she taught, expanded her pedagogical understanding, got a new insight about academic program from abroad, developed her interpersonal awareness, and interacted with people from other countries. The data gained from the analyses showed that the curriculum, lesson planning, language competency, and cultural differences are the challenges that the researcher faces. The main implication stresses the need to integrate components and elements of multiculturalism into future ITP and teacher education programmes.
