ABSTRACT
Introduction: Breast cancer is listed as the most significant health problem in the world. Breast cancer subtype luminal A has a good prognosis, high survival rate, and low recurrence rate. Estradiol is one of the most biologically active primary estrogens in humans. Chemotherapy aims to reduce the tumor mass and the status of the involved axillary lymph nodes and adjuvant treatment after surgery. This study aims to determine the relationship between chemotherapy and estradiol levels in patients with luminal A breast cancer.
Methods: This study was a quantitative observational study with a prospective cohort approach. The sample in this study were luminal A breast cancer patients who received chemotherapy and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria in the surgical oncology division of Dr. Moewardi Hospital, Surakarta. The difference in mean estradiol before and after treatment was tested by repeated ANOVA with post hoc Benferroni if normally distributed or Friedman test with post hoc Wilcoxon if the data were not normally distributed.
Results: The total sample that met the criteria was 20 people. There was a difference in the reduction in estradiol levels of -32.85±60.93 after chemotherapy. The statistical test result was p<0>Conclusion: Chemotherapy for luminal A breast cancer can reduce estradiol levels based on characteristics, but not statistically significant. There was a significant difference in mean estradiol levels in patients before the first chemotherapy and after the sixth chemotherapy.
