Paddy is the most important staple food for more than 3 billion people in the world. Paddy is the main agricultural commodity where the government has designated Central Java as the national rice barn to support food security. Increased rice production has an impact on the environment such as producing greenhouse gases (GHG) namely nitrogen oxides (N2O) and methane (CH4). This study aims to assess the estimation of methane and nitrogen oxide emissions as one of the GHGs produced in paddy fields. As for supporting GHG research on a large scale, the use of satellite databases as a source of observational variables for the Denitrification Decomposition (DNDC) model in three districts in Central Java, Indonesia, namely Cilacap, Karanganyar and Pati. The results showed that the DNDC model succeeded in estimating N2O and CH4
emissions in Central Java, Indonesia from 2005 - 2010 by 18.8 and 270.6; 19.0 and 213.7; and 12.8 and 360.6 kg N/C ha-1 yr-1 for areas in Cilacap, Karanganyar, and
Pati, respectively. The main factors influencing emissions are rainfall, temperature, soil moisture and rice productivity in each region. Since fertilizer inputs and
irrigation practices can contribute to N2O and CH4 emissions, further studies on agricultural practices on emissions are recommended.
