ABSTRACT 2004. Teaching and Learning Activities of Basic Level in American English Course. English Diploma Program, Faculty of Letters and Fine Arts, Sebelas Maret University. This final project is written based on the job training that the writer has done as a teacher in American English Course (AEC) in Gemolong. This final project is a report of the teaching and learning activities done by the writer in AEC. All of the activities in the class are done based on the lesson plan that is made before. They are: opening to get the attention of the students, presentation to give material to the students, and evaluation to evaluate the result of the activity. The supporting factors that the writer found during the job training are: the course policy and the student’s interest in English. Meanwhile the obstacles are: the lack of listening lesson equipment and the temperature of the classroom. The solutions for the obstacles are: providing a listening lab completed with the headset for each student; widening the classroom, so it can reduce the hot temperature of the classroom or the course classes should be given the fan or the air conditioner. To make the teaching and learning activities more effective, the leader of AEC should renovate the classroom and build a good listening lab in order to make the activities of listening lesson more effective.
