ABSTRACT
2008. This minor thesis was conducted to analyze the way the writer of the feature entitled “Rafting for One” expresses his idea and informs his experience in doing the river tubing offered by the Tracks Outdoor Adventure. The analysis was done through the interpersonal meaning analysis in terms of its Affect, Status and Contact to answer the research problem that how Affect, Status and Contact are realized in this sport tourism feature.
The research used a descriptive qualitative method and it employed a total sampling technique. The research data is in form of word, phrase, clause and sentence. All of the datum were collected and then analyzed.
The analysis of Affect shows that the judgment or assessment of the writer towards the text and the readers is positive. It is shown by the employment of positive polarity, positive attitudinal epithets, dominant indicative declarative and proposition clauses and the Recount genre.
The analysis of Status shows that the relationship between the writer and the readers is equal. It is shown by the use of dominant indicative declarative and proposition clauses, the first person point of view and the second personal pronoun. The relationship between the writer and the other participants is unequal because their social ranks are incomparable.
The analysis of Contact shows that the text is readable and familiar. It is shown by the absence of technical terms, the use of common abstractions, dominant simplex groups, topical unmarked theme and the Recount genre. The readers are highly involved because the writer uses the first person point of view and the second personal pronoun. It makes them likely take apart in the story.
