Representation Of Muslim Women in America As The Other As Seen in Amy Waldman’s Post 9/11 Fiction “The Submission”

This research is written based on the analysis of The Submission by Amy Waldman.  It  intends  to  explain  how  representations  of  Muslim  women  in America are considered as the Other in American post 9/11 fiction.
The research is a descriptive qualitative research. The source of data is a novel entitled The Submission written by Amy Waldman. The main data consist of words, phrases, sentences, expresses, dialogues, plot, and narrations in the novel. The supporting data are taken from books, e-books, journals, articles, websites and other related references.
This research is conducted under American studies perspective. It applies some perspectives especially theory of Orientalism to scrutinize the construction of Muslim women  in the novel.  It  also  attempts to identify  some constructions which differ from the reality of Muslim women generally and American Muslim women as described in other texts.
This research finds that The Submission represents Muslim women as the Other through constructing the characters women. They are sensual, devilish, subordinate, oppressed, exotic, and need salvation from the West.
