ABSTRACT
2008. The KID is the popular artifact that reflects many beliefs and values among the society, the film itself is comedy genre that shows the important of the family, and content of beliefs and values as a popular artifact.
The research dig up the beliefs and values on the popular artifact, in this thesis the researcher chose The KID as the popular artifact that analyze and dig up the beliefs and values of American society, which reflected on it.
Since this study was conducted within American Studies framework, therefore it was required some approaches that suitable to the subject as a consequence of using an interdisciplinary study. The first one was Sociological approach. It was used to understand the social condition of society in order to understand the problem in the film. The second one was the popular culture theory used to dig up the beliefs and values of American society, considered that the popularity of an artifacts was related with the beliefs and values among the society. Semiotic Film Theory was used to find the hidden message of this film.
In the result, the researcher fined the beliefs and values among the American society that reflected in The KID there are Individual freedom and privacy, Equality of opportunity, Choice of education, The family, Goodness of humanity, Achievement of materialism and the belief of American society to the symbol of colors.
