Anggita Rachmawati. K2214006. A CONTENT ANALYSIS OF ‘WHEN ENGLISH RINGS A BELL’ FOR THE 8TH GRADE BASED ON THE SCIENTIFIC APPROACH OF THE 2013 CURRICULUM. A Thesis. Surakarta. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Sebelas Maret University. January 2022.
In accordance to the 2013 Curriculum Revision, the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture has prepared a compulsory textbook for the junior high school level entitled ‘When English Rings a Bell’ which may be prioritized to be used in the teaching and learning process. This research is aimed a) to determine to what extent each chapter of the English textbook ‘When English Rings a Bell’ Revision 2017 has applied the scientific approach of the 2013 Curriculum Revision and b) to determine the most available aspect of the scientific approach of the 2013 Curriculum in the English textbook ‘When English Rings a Bell’ Revision 2017.
This research used descriptive qualitative method and a content analysis approach. The result showed that not all the chapters include all 5 stages of the scientific approach. However, the compatibility of the scientific approach in the textbook is 75.38% that achieved the level “Good” based on the percentage proposed by Arikunto. In addition, the most available aspect of the scientific approach of the 2013 Curriculum in the textbook is the ‘Observing’ stage that appears 46 times.
The findings are expected to be useful for the book writers, materials developers, teachers, students, and also other researchers. Although the newest curriculum has been released by the government, this textbook still can be used in implementing the scientific approach if the basic competences are still the same.
