The process of english teaching and learning at the fourth grade of SDN Karang

ABSTRACT 2008. This final project report aims to describe the process of teaching and learning English at the fourth grade of SDN Karang. The process starts from greeting then presentation that consists of reviewing the last lesson and presenting the new material. The next step is explanation. The writer explains the material to be discussed. It is continued by the practice of doing assignments. It is used to check the students’ comprehension about the lesson. It is done to know how far the students can catch the lesson and to know whether the writer succeeds or fails in teaching English. There were two problems which arouse during the English teaching and learning process. They were the problems of the students and the problems of the writer. The students’ problem were memorizing in the spelling of English words. In addition, the students were not confident with their ability to answer the questions. Meanwhile the writer’s problem was the limited time in the English teaching and learning process. Moreover, the writer had problem to control uncooperative students. Solving the students’ problems, the writer used some techniques. The writer always repeated the words several times, while for the unconfident students, the writer gave advice to them and guided the students to do the exercises. To solve the writer’s problems, she asked the students to move in front of the teacher, and then the students were asked to do some exercises on the blackboard. The writer also used games or songs to decrease the boring situation during the lessons
