The methods of teaching – learning english for 5th grade of elementary school in SDIT Nur Hidayah Surakarta

ABSTRACT
2008. This final project report is arranged based on the job training done in SDIT Nur Hidayah Surakarta during 2 months. The objectives of this final project report are to find the teaching – learning method used in teaching – learning English for 5th grade in SDIT Nur Hidayah Surakarta, to know the teacher’s strategies, and to clarify the strength and weakness of the teaching learning method used.
In teaching English for 5th grade of SDIT Nur Hidayah Surakarta, there were several methods applied to make the students understand easily. The methods used were direct method, grammar translation method, communication approach, communicative approach, silent way, and audio lingual method. Besides, there were several strategies done by the writer to handle the English class and to create a good atmosphere in the teaching – learning process, such as preparing lesson plans, doing game related to the materials, and making a good relationship and a good communication with the students.
Meanwhile, from the methods applied in teaching English for 5th grade, the writer found the strength and the weakness of each of them. The strength was it can help the writer in transferring knowledge to the students better, while the weakness was it makes the students confused if the teacher did not combine it with the other methods properly.
