The process of teaching english to the fourth grade students at SDN Kemasan I Surakarta

ABSTRACT
2008. This final project was written based on the job training done by the writer as an English teacher in SDN KEMASAN 1 Surakarta for about three months. The purposes were to know and to understand the process of teaching English in SDN Kemasan 1 Surakarta, including the difficulties faced by the students and the teacher during the process, and to find the solutions for those problems.
During the job training, the writer took some activities, such as observating in the class and teaching English lessons. In the class observation, the writer observed the condition of the class included the condition of the students. In process of teaching English to the students, the writer used some procedures to make the English teaching and learning run well. The procedures covered Building Knowledge of Field (BKOF), Modeling, Individual Construction, Joint Construction, and Closing. And there were four basic skills Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing done in the teaching and learning activities.
There were some problems faced by the students and the teacher. The problems of the students were in memorizing the English word, spelling, pronouncing, and writing in English. Meanwhile the problems of the teacher were the student’s mother tongue interference, uncooperative students, and big class. The writer also presented the solutions to solve the problems such as the teacher asked the students to write the words in English for several times, the teacher repeated in saying and explaining the words over and over again, she also wrote on the blackboard when she gave a new word, gave more activities related to the lesson, and the teacher explained the materials by using loud voice and checking around the class.
