Teaching vocabulary to the second grade students of SD Plus Al Firdaus Surakarta

ABSTRACT 2008. This final project was written based on the job training done by the writer on February, 14th 2008 in SD Plus Al Firdaus Surakarta. The aims of this final project are to describe the process of teaching learning English vocabulary to the students for the second grade of SD Plus Al Firdaus, Surakarta, and to show the problems faced by the students and the writer and also give the solutions to the problems. The writer wrote this final project based on the data collected by observing the class and teaching the second grade students of SD Plus Al Firdaus, Surakarta. The observation was done in the class to know how the class condition and how the teacher teaches. The process of teaching consists of introducing the material, explanation of the material, exercises and ending the lesson. The material of teaching English vocabulary is taken from Active English for Grade II of Elementary School. During the teaching learning process, the write faced some problems. The problems were the student’s condition and student’s in remembering the letter of the words. The writer also gave the solutions to solve the problems namely trying to makes the lesson more enjoyable such as giving the students a game, trying to makes the class more relax and fun, trying to explain not in a rush, teaching the vocabulary by reading in order to introduce the words and the letters to the students, asking the students to make notes in their notebook, using flash cards to make the students more easier to remember the letter of the words.
