Because of its capabilities and accessibility, digital reading has attracted much attention from scholars and educators. This study aims to explain the digital reading experiences of fourth-semester EFL students who engage in extensive reading outside the classroom. The study addresses some of the concerns: Students' perceptions of digital reading outside the classroom. What digital reading characteristics do students find beneficial for improving their reading comprehension outside the classroom?

A total of seven complete questionnaires were collected for analysis. In addition, three individuals conducted individual interviews to acquire a deeper grasp of their opinions. In this study, thematic analysis techniques were employed. Three fourth-semester EFL students from a university in Surakarta made up the total sample size for this study. The researcher adopted a method of narrative inquiry. All of the students in this study reported using digital texts, according to the study's findings. The majority of students were found to be engaged in digital reading. Accessibility, portability, and affordability were some criteria that affected the students' choices for particular text formats. However, one student was found to prefer paper-based reading since the screen's brightness causes eye strain when reading digitally. This study indicates that readers are aware of digital reading features and have learned online reading tactics that are supposed to help them overcome a variety of challenges in order to comprehend online text effectively.
