The result of the analysis is discussed using semiotic theory to analyze how police brutality and systemic racism are represented in the movie The Hate U Give. This research also applies the tenets of Critical Race Theory (CRT) to understand the issue of police brutality and systemic racism in the movie. This research shows five tenets of Critical Race Theory (CRT) are reflected in the movie that represents police brutality and systemic racism. The five tenets are; endemic racism, social construction, intersectionality and anti-essentiality, interest convergence, and unique voice of color. These tenets contribute to strengthening the idea that police brutality mostly happens to Black males, and that the justice system is systemically racist toward Black people.
