Mayzul Yusuf. K2218051. Pre-Service EFL Teachers' Experiences on Challenges and Opportunities in Teaching Writing during Online Teaching Practicum: A Narrative Inquiry. Undergraduate Thesis, Surakarta: The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Universitas Sebelas Maret, September 2022.

This research was aimed to investigate challenges and opportunities that pre-service English teachers encountered in teaching writing in an online environment during their teaching practicum during the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, this study was also aimed to seek how did the pre-service teachers (PSTs) solve the challenges in online teaching writing. This study employed a narrative inquiry paradigm in gathering the data from the participants through narrative frames, diaries, interviews, and artifacts. From the data analyzed, it was found that there were some challenges that PSTs encountered during online teaching writing, that was divided into two parts: the first is the challenges related to the teachers, and the second is the challenges related to the students. Challenges related to the teachers were such as changes in teachers’ roles, communication barriers, insufficient teachers’ preparation programs in online teaching, and poor teachers’ time management. On the other hand, there were also challenges related to students’ writing process, starting from planning, drafting, editing, and final work of students’ writing. In the attempt to solve the challenges, PSTs have done many things in online teaching writing, such as demonstrating, motivating and provoking, supporting, responding, and evaluating.  By conducting online teaching writing, the PSTs also found some opportunities, such as the opportunity to record live lectures for reflection, get acquainted with using various media platforms, and design a model to reduce teachers' workload. The finding of this study could be used as consideration in the design and planning of future online teaching practicum in order to provide the necessary support for pre-service teachers in their development period during teaching practicum.
