Translation Quality Assessment of Food Studies Term Translation, Translated by Google Translate Camera Scan

This research focuses only on identifying the translation technique used by
Google Translate application in translating technical terms related to food studies
and then assessing its translation qualities in terms of acceptability and accuracy.
This research uses qualitative descriptive method as its research methodology.
The source of data in this research are the translations of technical terms related to
Food Studies found in article abstract using Google Translate Camera Scan
feature and questionnaire about the translation quality in terms of accuracy and
acceptability.
In this research, in attempting to get the translation data, it showed that the
result in translating technical terms with and without their context may or may not
give the same result of translation. Thus, this research will also compare the
translation techniques and the translation quality of in-context technical terms
translation and off-context technical terms translation.
This research revealed the types of translation technique used in in-context
and off-context translation data are similar. Those are established equivalent, calque,
calque + pure borrowing, pure borrowing, amplification, and literal translation. In
terms of translation quality, based on the averages scores; in-context translation data
is considered more acceptable than off-context translation data, but less accurate than
off-context translation data, however the difference in the average score is only by
decimal.
