“Teachers’ Perceptions of the Implementation of Portfolio System in Writing Class: A Case Study at a Secondary School”

The portfolio system appears as one alternative answer for such a challenge encountered by English teachers. The research about the portfolio system that focused on teachers' perceptions is quite necessary since it helps the teachers and students of the English language find a proper way of learning writing skill. This study aimed to investigate the teachers' perceptions of using a portfolio system to improve writing ability in teaching writing skill in English as a foreign language to secondary education level students.
This research was conducted under a case study method, from March 2020 to September 2020. The participants of this research were two Indonesian teachers of English which consisted of one male and one female teacher. The data collection technique was through interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The data analysis of this research was using interactive model proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014).
This research found out that the teachers favored in implementing a portfolio system to help them teach writing skill effectively for secondary school students. This research stands as a contribution in teaching English writing skill. This study suggests that a portfolio system is a useful tool for teaching English writing skill in secondary education. It stands as a supportive material for the teachers in facilitating the students by monitoring and giving feedback on their writing to encourage their writing performance. As the implication, this research stands as a study and motivation for the English teachers to implement the portfolio system in teaching of writing skill since it provides benefits which help students in better learning writing skill in English.
