This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the abacus media in increasing the ability to count addition in class II SDLB Jepara. This research is a quantitative research with the type of experimental research that aims to measure the effect of the independent variable, namely the use of learning media, namely the abacus, on the related variable, namely the ability to count sums. This study used an experimental design with a control group (pretest-posttest control group design), that is, before a new teaching method was tried out, a certain group or class was selected to be taught using the abacus method. The samples used were 7 children for the control group and 7 children for the experimental group. The data collection technique was using research instruments in the form of test questions totaling 20 items used to obtain post-test and pre-test scores from both the experimental class and the control class. The data analysis technique used is the Wilcoxon Rank Test. The results of the study showed that the implementation of learning using the abacus media could improve the ability to count additions in mentally retarded children in grade 2 SDLB Jepara.
