This research was conducted to (1) investigate the cultural elements which are exposed in the English textbook entitled Pathway to English, and (2) to find out the types of cultural content which are presented in the English textbook entitled Pathway to English. This research used a qualitative content analysis method. The object of this research is an EFL textbook entitled “Pathway to English” for first grade in Senior High School which is published by Erlangga in 2016. The data were collected through document analysis. The technique of analyzing data was prepared by using the procedure from Miles, Huberman & Saldana (2014) which has three components of analyzing data: data condensation, data display, and data conclusion. The findings of this research showed that: (1) the elements of culture appear about 213 times. The first element is persons, which become the highest presentation with 81 times (38%). Then followed by the products which are recorded 71 times (34%) of occurrence in the textbook. Next is practices with 32 times (15%). The last element falls to perspectives with 28 times (14%), (2) the types of culture appear about 206 times. The culture-free is recorded 82 times (41%) and becomes dominant in this book based on analyzing aspects of cultural types. Then it is followed by the target culture 57 times (28%). The third-place falls to International culture with 41 times (20%). Next, source culture with 20 times (8%) of occurrence through the book. The last is Javanese culture, which becomes the lowest presentation with 6 times (3%). Based on the findings, it can be seen that the distribution of elements of culture and types of culture was unbalanced. Therefore, it is a need for textbook developers and teachers to provide a more balanced proportion to help learners improve their cultural knowledge and awareness.
