Soybeans are self-pollinating plants, but insects have the potential to increase soybean yields as pollinators. Soybeans can be intercropped with corn, and the presence of corn can support the presence of insects that visit soybean flowers. This study aims to determine the diversity and abundance of insects visiting soybean flowers grown in intercropping with corn. The research was conducted using a single-factor experiment, with treatments consisting of soybean and corn populations in proportions of 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, and 5:1, arranged in a single-plot design. In addition, monoculture soybean is also grown as a control. Observations were conducted to determine insect diversity and abundance, daily activities, and the role of the environment in the abundance of insects visiting soybean flowers. To assess the role of wind and insects as complementary pollinators, soybean yields were observed by counting the number of filled pods and seeds per plant, and the weight of dry seeds per plant. The results showed that the diversity and abundance of insect visitors to soybean flowers in intercropped soybeans were higher than in monoculture. The dominant insect visitors to soybean flowers were Hymenoptera. Insect visitors to soybean flowers were more active in the morning than in the afternoon and evening. Insect visitors to soybean flowers can increase soybean yields. The results of this study provide recommendations for conserving insect pollinators in soybean plantations, including through intercropping.
