This study investigated gender representations and stereotypes in one of the Indonesian EFL Textbooks for the 8th Graders in Merdeka Curriculum entitled "English for Nusantara" published by the Indonesian Ministry of Education. The aims of this study were to analyze gender representations and to analyze gender stereotypes in “English for Nusantara” textbook. This study used content analysis and descriptive qualitative research methods. The results showed that both female and male characters engage in dominant conversation participation in both the written and visual representations, although with slight variations in frequency. The research found that the textbook exhibit some variations in gender representation, particularly regarding visibility and occupational roles while striving for a balanced distribution in topic domination and firstness. Despite geographical and cultural differences, the issue of gender representation in educational materials persists, emphasizing the need for increased awareness, critical evaluation, and revision of language textbooks to ensure equitable and diverse gender portrayals. This would provide valuable information on the effectiveness of current strategies in addressing and justifying stereotypes and identify innovative approaches for promoting gender equality in EFL classrooms.
