× <p>The Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia has announced the new curriculum called <em>"Merdeka Belajar" </em>in preparation for the Indonesia&#39;s Golden Generation 2045. In successfully implementing the new curriculum, the recognition of teacher agency as a crucial factor in implementing it. This qualitative case study aims at investigating (1) what are the variation of agency expressed by EFL teachers regarding <em>the Merdeka Belajar </em>curriculum, (2) how does the proactive teacher agency respond to the new curriculum, and (3) how does the teacher agency reflect in their teaching practice. The data and data source of this study collected from 34 EFL teachers secondary schools, an open-ended questionnaires, semi-structured interview, document analysis (Lesson Plans) and observation class. The Interactive Data Analysis Model Miles et.al., (2014) was used to analyze the data.</p><p>The findings revealed (1) three variations of agency by EFL teachers: proactive, reactive, and passive teacher agency Jenkins (2019). The proactive teacher agency is needed to implement the <em>Merdeka Belajar </em>successfully in the classrooms. Therefore, (2) the proactive teacher agency became proactively responds the <em>Merdeka Belajar </em>curriculum by enacting the core properties of agency, intentionality, forethought, self-reactiveness and self-reflectiveness. The last finding is (3) EFL teachers agency reflect in their teaching practice, this part known as evaluation as they enacted a good teacher agency to meet the new curriculum goals. The implication of this study would be beneficial for teachers to facilitates their access to high-quality professional development opportunities that cover the latest advancements in pedagogy also to reflect on their teaching performance by having continual self-evaluation and professional development to enhance pedagogical efficacy. For policy and practices, there are several implications of this study such as developing teacher training and professional development programs, it ensures teachers comprehend the fundamental principles and objectives of the <em>Merdeka Belajar </em>by delivering intensive training sessions. Also, make collaborative platforms where teachers can share their experiences, challenges, and solutions regarding the implementation of the curriculum. </p>
