× Privately-Owned Forest (POF) is a natural resource that plays an essential role in rural livelihood. The interaction and dependence of the community on the forest as a single ecosystem have long been identified and assessed to experience relatively periodic changes, especially in relation to economic, socio-cultural, and ecological aspects. Using Social-Ecological Systems (SESs) by Ostrom as a framework and mixed methods to analyze the data, this research aims to understand the form of interaction and the level of community dependence on POF, as well as the influencing factors. This research findings indicate that various forms of community interaction by the community were the fulfillment of food, wood, non-wood forest products (NWFPs), and water. The level of dependence of respondents on community POF is relatively high (64.72%). While the factors influencing the level of dependence of respondents on the POF are age, educational level, number of family dependents, the ownership of POF, distance from house, land use, access to seedlings or fertilizers, and water utilization. This high level of dependency has implications for forest sustainability, as POF are integral to the social and economic well-being of the community, as well as ecological prosperity. This research provides valuable insights into the complex-dynamics of the interaction happening between communities and forests, as basic knowledge to policy development in sustainable forest management.
