Grammatical error analysis in constructing verb forms of junior high school students in smp n 1 polokarto (a psycholinguistics approach)

× This research aims to find varieties of errors in constructing verb forms of junior high school students in SMP N 1 Polokarto, and to describe factors influencing students to make errors of verb forms. This research is a descriptive research which deals with natural phenomena, using data which are collected first hand during the observation. This method refers to formulate the conclusion by collecting, classifying, and interpreting the data of the research. The data in this research are all forms of verb errors produced by students in their English classrooms. The data sources are from exercise papers and field notes. The exercises papers given at the end of the English classes contain verb errors which should be revised by students. Field notes which contain errors made by students out of exercise papers were made during English classroom. The data of this research were produced by second grade students of junior high school in SMP N 1 Polokarto. The results of the data analysis show that there are two main conclusions. The first is the form types of verb errors which are divided into five categories of omission, addition, mis-formation, mis-ordering, and combination error. Each category is divided into subcategories. The number of each category is different from one to another. The data show that there are 10 data of omission error, 6 data of addition error, 21 data of mis-formation error, 1 datum of mis-ordering error, and 51 data of combination error. The second is the factors influencing students making errors which are divided into two main factors of interlingual factor and intralingual factor. Each factor is divided into subcategories. The data show that there are 7 data of interlingual factor and 82 data of intralingual factor.
