This present discourse analysis investigated the portrayal of moral values in International English textbooks used in Indonesian elementary schools. This study intertwines Searle’s (1996) speech act and Brown and Levinson’s (1987) politeness strategies to scrutinize utterances/dialogues in the selected textbooks. The two English textbooks are entitled "Cambridge Primary English Learner's Book 2" and "Cambridge Primary English Learner's Book 6," published by Cambridge University Press. The present study revealed that the two textbooks implemented all speech acts to represent moral values, underscoring the predominantly usage of assertives and directives as a direct impartation strategy. Off-record, positive, and bald-on are among the most used politeness strategies to represent moral values in the selected textbooks. However, the prevalent use of off-record sparks discussion on the alignment of students’ cognitive development. The selected textbook conjoins the speech acts and politeness strategies to convey moral values. Five of the most prevailing moral values represented by the textbook are kindness, honesty, respect for others, responsibility, and environmental sensitivity. The current study illuminates the pedagogical implication of the textbook composing process as well as its practicality.
