This study aims to (1) identify the elements of sexism presented by Porreca (1984) in the English Teaching textbook for senior high school students in the Merdeka Curriculum entitled English for Change, (2) to find out whether sexism appears in the English Teaching textbook for senior high school students in the Merdeka Curriculum entitled English for Change. This research is important because sexism is often manifested in various aspects of life, including in English language learning at school. A descriptive qualitative approach was chosen for this research as it provides a wider space to understand the context and meaning contained in the textbook. By involving content analysis techniques, this research can systematically explore relevant information and identify patterns related to sexism in the subject matter. The main data source of this research is the English textbook “English for Change” used in Senior High Schools according to the Merdeka Curriculum published by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology. By focusing on this textbook, the research can be more focused and in-depth in analyzing the content presented to students. By using the content analysis method, this research will organize the data collected from textbook documents according to the predetermined analysis framework. Through this approach, it is hoped that this research can contribute to a deeper understanding of the issue of sexism in the subject matter taught to high school students. This research takes place in Surakarta, Central Java, from December 2023 to July 2024. During this period, the researcher will thoroughly investigate the textbook for grade XI which is the focus of the study. In the English textbook English for Change, the percentage of females and males was examined with six indicators; omissions, firstness, occupations, nouns, masculine generic structures, and adjectives. The result is that women have a greater number than men in five out of six indicators of sexism. The indicator of masculine generic structure was not found in the textbook. Meanwhile, the English for Change textbook is a textbook that promotes sexism against men. The author has a very important role in shaping the perception and understanding of the readers. By choosing words carefully and paying attention to the way they are represented in textbooks, they can significantly influence how messages about gender and equality are received by readers, especially young people who are in the stage of forming values and attitudes. By emphasizing gender equality in educational materials, we can ensure that inclusive values and respect for all individuals become an integral part of the teaching and learning process.
