Using Microcontroller AT89S51 with Serial Port Interface

The solar module characteritation instrument using microcontroller AT89S51 with Serial port interface on personal computer has been constructed. The instrument measures voltage and current of solar module. It consists voltage devider circuit, current to voltage converter circuit, analog to digital converter circuits, analog switch circuits and microcontroller AT89S51 contained in DT51 MinSys v3.0 board. Operation of the instrument using software that made using Borland Delphi 7.0. The software is also used to perform, to save and to process the data from measurement of the solar module. The instrument has a voltage range from 0 to 10 V, a current range from 0 to 50 mA. From measurement of single the solar module characteristic, the open circuit voltage (Voc) equal to 9,650 V, the short circuit currents (Isc) equal to 16,856 mA, maximum energy equal to 90.47 mW, energy conversion efficiency equal to 3,66 % and fill factor 0,556. Moreover, measurement of paralel the solar module characteristic, the open circuit voltage (Voc) equal to 9,732 V, the short circuit currents (Isc) equal to 17,82 mA, maximum energy equal to 92,22 mW, energy conversion efficiency equal to 1,86 % and fill factor 0,531.
