× <p xss=removed>The study aims to identify the characteristics and psychological state of the key characters in the drama series <i>All the Light We Cannot See</i> (2023)<i> </i>by analyzing the usage of affect and judgment subsystems of appraisal theory in the drama script. The analysis is done throughout the narrative genre of the drama series, from orientation, complication, and resolution to the coda stage. Furthermore, the study goes into the characters' psychological aspects, gaining a better understanding of their true selves and motivations. It raises several questions: (i) What types of affect and judgment used by the characters? (ii) How do the characterizations build throughout the stages from affect and judgment used? (iii) How are the psychological aspects of the characters revealed from the affect and judgment used? and, (iv) Is there any character development throughout the narrative stages? The objectives of this study: (i) To find the types of affect and judgment used by the characters, (ii) To find the characteristics of the characters from the use of affect and judgment, (iii) To find the psychological aspects of the characters from the use of affect and judgment, (iv) To reveal the character development of each character. This is a qualitative-descriptive study with primary data. Data is inferred from the script dialogues throughout all narrative stages and phases employed by the main characters or other characters in the story which contains the attitudinal lexis of affect and judgment used by the key characters. The data describes the positive or negative reactions and evaluations that assist the researcher in defining the characters’ traits and psychological conditions. Eventually, finding out the character development of the characters. A total sampling is done to ensure comprehensive results. The analysis method of domain, taxonomy, and componential from Spradley functions to add the study’s novelty and intensity. Through the data analysis, the results of this study are (i) Protagonists starts with more negative but then develops into positive after the resolution stage, the judgment for the protagonist are mostly positive depending on the side characters’ perspective, meanwhile, the antagonist consistent in expressing negative affect and being evaluated negatively by other characters, (ii) The characteristics of each characters are evident from the behavioral pattern found on the types affect and judgment used in their dialogue in every narrative stages, (iii) The psychological condition of the protagonists during the war are psychology of survivor and PTSD (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder), on the other hand, the antagonist may suffer pathological narcissism and does psychotic behavior based on affect and judgment data found, and (iv) the protagonists experienced character development by the end of the story while the antagonist do not.</p>
