Gender issues in education have been a concern for a long time. There have been many studies on gender in education, one of which is in textbook. In Indonesia, there have also been many studies on gender representation in ELT textbooks, but there are still few studies that compare gender representation in ELT textbooks. This study examines gender representation in two ELT textbooks and compares them to find which book represents gender more equally.

This research is a content analysis conducted by data making, inferring, and narrating. The data of this research are texts and images in material, instructions, and exercises that represent gender in two Indonesian ELT Textbooks. Data analysis was conducted by identifying the data and interpreting it following Porreca's Theory (1984) which includes: omission, firstness, role occupation, noun, and adjectives.

The results of this study reveal that the two Indonesian ELT Textbooks analyzed still represent gender unequally, but there have been efforts to avoid unequal gender representation in Textbook 1 published by the Indonesian government. Meanwhile, Textbook 2, published by the private publisher, still portrayed more unequal gender representation.
