Commissive speech acts involve the speaker undertaking an obligation or proposal to act in the future. Their meanings may not be obvious without context, and translating them can be challenging because the message may not be able to be conveyed in the exact same wordings as those in the source text. The objective of this research are: (i) to analyze the types of commissive speech acts are found in the TV series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan seasons 3 and 4, (ii) to identify the types of translation techniques used to translate commissive speech acts found in the TV series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan seasons 3 and 4, (iii) to know the translation techniques affect the translation quality in terms of accuracy and acceptability. This research has two types of data. They are linguistic data and translation data. The linguistic data are taken from Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan Seasons 3 & 4 in the form of utterances containing commissive speech acts. Meanwhile, the translation data are taken from the informants (raters). The research conducted is descriptive qualitative research. This research is also product-oriented research. The content analysis and FGD (Focus Group Discussion) are used to collect the data. The results show that there are 10 types of commissive speech acts where promise is the most appeared type of commissive speech act. There are 13 types of translation technique that are categorized into single and multiple technique. The average score of accuracy and acceptability are 2.96 and 2.97 meaning that the translation is accurate and acceptable. However, some of the data are still less accurate and less acceptable. They are affected by literal translation and discursive creation translation techniques. In addition, literal translation and discursive creation translation techniques also cause the translation to be less acceptable because the translation becomes less natural in the target language.
