Listening to songs is not just for entertainment but can also be used for learning, such as English language learning. It is believed that songs can provide many language inputs or vocabulary useful for communication, comprehension, and overall language competence. Therefore, this study aims to explore the Indonesian EFL student's experience of listening to songs on Spotify as an extramural informal digital learning of English activity to acquire vocabulary. Moreover, this research also describes the effect of listening to songs on Spotify on EFL students's receptive vocabulary skills. The narrative inquiry method was used in this study to determine the effects of listening to songs on Spotify through the stories and experiences of the participants. The participants were three undergraduate EFL students from universities in Indonesia with experience in listening to English songs as well as optimizing Spotify features. The results of this study show that listening to songs on Spotify as an IDLE extramural activity can facilitate EFL students' vocabulary acquisition and positively affect learners' receptive vocabulary skills in knowing 'the form and the sound'; 'the meaning and the context'; and 'the use' of words. The features of the Spotify platform, such as lyrics and translations, repeating content, and customization of listener interests, helped the students in this activity. Based on these findings, this study suggests educators incorporate learning through digital devices or songs into in-class or out-of-class learning so that students get additional exposure to English, which is very useful for them.
