× ABSTRACT The aim of this research were to know the effect of chitosan to the weight and microanatomy structure of liver and kidney in mice after induction of chitosan. This research was evaluated experimentally to BABL/c male mice in the age of 3 month with average weight of 35 gr. These mice ware devided into five groups. A group was a control that given only with aquadest 0,5 ml for 90 days. Mice of group 1, 2, 3, and 4 given with chitosan in doses 5 mg/g bw/day; 10 mg/ g bw/day; 15 mg/ g bw/day; dan 20 mg/ g bw/day respectively for 90 days, each other in 0,5 ml aquadest. Liver and kidney were removed at 91st day. Observation of microanatomy structure were: 1) determining the kind and the damage level of hepatocyte, glomerulus, and tubules as the qualitative data; 2) measuring the height of central vein diameter, weight of liver, glomerulus diameter, and weight of kidney as the quantitative data, which then analyzed using by ANOVA. The result of this research showed that exposed chitosan orally did not cause weight change liver and kidney. On the liver, chitosan caused reversible changed that is fatty swelling, fatty degeneration, hydrophilic degeneration, also irreversible change that is karyorhexic and karyolytic. Liver on dose 5 mg/g w/day of kitosan showed light damage level hepatocyte, and for the dose 10, 15 and 20 mg/ w/day hepatocyte showed medium damage level. On the kidney, chitosan did not caused structure microanatomy changed. Keyword: Mus musculus L., chitosan, liver, kidney.
