The Study of the Translation of Expressions That Realizes Attitude Patterns in Analytical Exposition and Hortatory Exposition Texts Discussing Environmental Issues (Appraisal Theory Approach). Faculty of Humanities, Master Program of Linguistics, Main Interest in Translation, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta.This research aims to examine translation techniques, translation shifts, and translation quality assessments between attitudes source two sub-genres of exposition texts, namely: analytical exposition texts and hortatory exposition texts from the theconversation.com website. These articles were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method using appraisal system approach in Systemic Functional Linguistics. 1. Researcher carried out content analysis of analytical exposition texts and hortatory exposition texts and their translations. 2. Then words, groups of words, and clauses containing sources of attitude assessment are grouped into attitude sub-classifications. 3. After that, the researcher conducted the identification of the translation techniques used in translating attitude. 4. Then, researcher and raters validated the assessment data of the source language text and its translation. 5. Next, an assessment of the quality of the translation text is carried out with the raters through a Focus Group Discussion, based on quality assessment criteria for the aspects of accuracy, acceptability and readability of the translated texts. 6. The data found in this research was then processed through domain, taxonomy and componential analysis.The results of this research indicate that writers of analytical exposition texts and hortatory exposition texts use a very high number of attitude appreciation reactions: negative quality which indicates the author's dissatisfaction and negative view of the issues raised in the article. Translators use a variety of translation techniques but most use established equivalent techniques. This research found 2 shifts in analytical exposition texts & 4 shifts in hortatory exposition texts. This shifts were due to the use of deletion, discursive creation, and modality techniques and has an impact on decreasing the translation quality. The quality of the translated text is quite high, with the analytical exposition text getting a score of 2.83 for accuracy, 2.91 for acceptability, and 2.93 for readability, while the hortatory exposition text gets a score of 2.76 for accuracy, 2.96 for acceptability, and 2.96 for readability.
