ABSTRACT The Culex quinquefasciatus Say. is occupy on the dirty and polluted water, and it was the filarial, West Nil virus and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vectors. The objectives of this research are to determine influence of various domestic wastewater on the growth of Culex quinquefasciatus Say. larvae, and to determine viability of Cx. quinquefasciatus Say. larvae on various domestic wastewater habitat. Research was conducted at MIPA Laboratory Central, sub Lab. Biology and sub Lab. Chemistry of UNS on Juli - November 2006. The samples taken from four different domestic wastewater catchments before come up to the ditch where predominantly content of organic matters, detergents, soap and the oil respectively. Physics water parameter as well as chemical such as temperature, pH, DO, BOD and COD were measured. Laboratory reared of 25 first instar larvae were transferred to small plastic cup each containing 100 ml of domestic wastewater. The mortality, number of larva on one time (Lx), mortalitas rate (qx), survival rate (Sx), life expectancy (ex), and wet-dried weigth of larva were assessed every day up to twelfth day. The collected data was analyzed using Life Table. The result showed indicate that oily wastewater medium affected to the best growth of Cx. quinquefasciatus Say. larvae among the other media such as soapy, detergents and organic matters. The best survival of larvae were encountered in oily medium then followed by organic matters, soapy, and detergents media consecutively. The died larva were marked by reddish, bended body, and greenish color of internal body of larvae.
