This research discusses the translation of expressive speech acts in The Inheritance Games (2020). The purposes of this research are to identify the types of expressive speech acts, to analyze the translation technique applied in translating the expressive speech acts, to examine the shifting of types of expressive speech acts, and also to assess the translation quality of expressive speech acts in The Inheritance Games novel in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability.

In this research, the data, which are in the form of utterances that contain expressive speech acts and the translations, were collected with purposive sampling and collected through content analysis, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), and questionnaires. Moreover, the data were examined by applying descriptive qualitative with the help of raters, specifically in the assessment of translation quality, in terms of accuracy and acceptability. Furthermore, three respondents, who are target readers of this novel, participated in this research to assess the readability aspect.

The results of this research are as follows: first, there are eight subcategories of expressive speech acts discovered in the novel. They are deploring, lamenting, complimenting, apologizing, thanking, welcoming, boasting, and forgiving. Secondly, there are three single types of translation techniques that are applied individually. These translation techniques include established equivalent, modulation, and paraphrase. The researcher has discovered 53 combinations of translation techniques to apply when translating expressive speech acts. Thirdly, there is no shifting in the translation since there is no translation technique that affects the subcategory of expressive speech acts. Finally, the average score of the translation in terms of accuracy is 2.97, acceptability is 2.97, and readability is 2.99. This result indicates that the translations of expressive speech acts in The Inheritance Games novel are considered as accurate, acceptable, and highly readable.
