</p><p class="MsoNormal" xss=removed><span lang="EN-US" xss=removed>This
research was conducted to investigate how American online news media framed and
narrated the political issue of the Indonesian 2024 election involving one of
the candidates, Prabowo Subianto, using Robert Entman’s framing theory and
Edward’s Saids orientalism theory. Focusing
on news coverage from The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The
Washington Times, this research shows that left-wing partisan publicatios most
likely depict Prabowo as a threat to Indonesia’s democracy, emphasizing his
human rights issues and authoritarian tendency. In contrast, right-wing partisan
publication provide a more fair depiction, balanced on how it highlights both
of Prabowo’s controversial history and prospects for Indonesia’s stability. The
study also reveals Orientalist biases, depicting Prabowo by Western
presumptions of Eastern leaders, consequently adding to wider concerns on media
framing, cultural representation, and political discourse. The findings show
that the media's portrayal of non-Western political figures is influenced by
ideological and cultural stereotypes, affecting worldwide opinions of democracy
and leadership in Indonesia.<o></o></span></p>
