× ABSTRACT It has been done a research about waveguide optical property of atactic Polystyrene ( a-PS ) film fabricated using dip coating method. a-PS solution was made by disolving a-PS grain in toluene with a concentration of 5%, 7%, 9%, 11%, and 13%. A coupling prism was used to identify whether the a-PS film can propagate a wave. The result of measurement showed that thin film can guide a wave. The number of wave that can be supported by waveguide was same with solution concentration in which the number of modus respectively were 6, 8, 9, 10, and 12. Comparison of two method of fabrication ; dip coating and spin coating ; was more consistent with concentration of a-PS solution than that with spin coating method. Further measurement of refractive index using refractometer ABBE showed that refractive index seemed to decrease with the decrease of a-PS solution concentration.
