It has been done a research about waveguide optical property of atactic
Polystyrene ( a-PS ) film fabricated using dip coating method. a-PS solution was
made by disolving a-PS grain in toluene with a concentration of 5% and heating
f thin film with temperature variation of 30
o
C, 64 o
C, 84 o
C, 94 o
C, 114 o
C . A
oupling prism was used to identify whether the a-PS film can propagate a wave.
The result of measurement showed that thin film can guide a wave. The number of
wave that can be supported by waveguide was same with solution temperature in
which the number of modus respectively were 6, 8, 12, 13, and 14. Further
measurement of refractive index using refractometer ABBE showed that refractive
ndex seemed to decrease with the decrease of warm-up temperature of thin film.
