This study explores the impact of positive self-talk on public speaking anxiety (PSA) experienced by a college student, aiming to understand how this psychological strategy influences anxiety levels before and during oral presentations. The research has two main objectives: first, to identify the common fears and concerns a student faces when speaking in front of an audience, and second, to analyze the role of positive self-talk in managing these anxieties. Using an autobiographical narrative approach, data were gathered through self-reflection journals and personal observations, followed by thematic analysis to categorize the findings. The results reveal that the student often experiences anxiety due to fear of making mistakes, receiving negative judgment, and forgetting key points, all of which can trigger physical symptoms like an increased heart rate, trembling hands, and a sense of panic. However, consistent engagement in positive self-talksuch as using affirmations, self-encouragement, and cognitive reframingproves to be beneficial in reducing these fears. By consciously replacing negative thoughts with constructive ones, the student reports a noticeable improvement in confidence and a greater ability to control anxiety-related symptoms. This suggests that positive self-talk not only minimizes fear but also enhances overall speaking performance. Given its effectiveness, this study concludes that positive self-talk is a valuable and accessible technique for students struggling with PSA. It highlights the potential benefits of incorporating self-talk strategies into academic settings to support students in developing self-confidence and overcoming speech-related anxiety. Furthermore, integrating this method into public speaking training programs could provide students with practical tools to manage anxiety more effectively. While these findings are promising, future research could explore the long-term effects of positive self-talk across different educational levels and cultural backgrounds to determine its broader applicability and effectiveness in varied contexts.
