×
This study aims to (1) explore how the use of

ChatGPT affects the writing organization skills of English Education students

and (2) identify the aspects of writing organization that are most affected by

the use of ChatGPT. This study was conducted at a public university in Central

Java that has integrated AI ChatGPT as a tool in students’ academic writing.

The research subjects were three students who had taken the Academic Writing

course and actively used ChatGPT in the writing process. This research employed

a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through

open-ended questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and document analysis

(artifacts) in the form of academic writing samples and screenshots of

interactions with ChatGPT. The findings revealed that ChatGPT significantly

improved students’ paragraph structure, particularly in generating topic

sentences, elaborating supporting details, and composing concluding sentences. Furthermore, ChatGPT

supported better use of transitions and enhanced paragraph coherence. In conclusion, ChatGPT is an effective

collaborative tool for improving students’ writing organization. It is

suggested that educators integrate ChatGPT strategically in writing instruction

and that students use it critically to support rather than replace their

learning process. Future research may explore the long-term effects and ethical

implications of ChatGPT use in academic writing.
