Pick A Star on The Horizon is a novel that explores issues of injustice, social reality, individual struggle, and resilience. The novel is inspired by my family's story and the events I observed in my surroundings. Set in the countryside in the 1990s, the novel tells the story of Janu, a character who faces family pressure and the shattering of his dreams due to the lack of priviledge and the prevalent nepotism among his peers. The struggles of his life do not end there. At his lowest point, he was forced to part with the woman he loved, Hanum. The separation had made Janu desperate. Fortunately, he still has family and friends who help him rise again. The objectives of this creative work are to express criticism of injustice, to depict the struggle of individual against injustice, and to explore the influence of the family and close friends on individual resilience. In developing the family story, I conducted interview, direct observations, and online observations that supported the writing process of this creative project. The result of this creative project is that I could provide a constructive criticism, explore the consequences of injustice to individual, and show the importance of family’s support.
