Woman representation has been the most problematic issue in the gaming industry. Video games like League of Legends: Wild Rift (WR) and Honor of Kings (HOK) are relevant but limited as research objects that need to be studied related to that issue. Thus, this research aimed to analyze how women are represented and whether it challenges or conform with the traditional gender norms. With a comparative approach, similarities and differences of woman representation of both games were also analyzed. This research employs qualitative-descriptive methods in collecting and analyzing the data. The data are the character designs such as name, physical appearance, and costumes which are taken from both games. This research applies Representation theory by Stuart Hall, Semiotic theory by Roland Barthes, Female Masculinity theory by Jack Halberstam, and Narrative Architecture in Video Games by Henry Jenkins. In terms of cultural difference, WR (West) tends to represent masculinity as something visible and coexist with femininity, reflecting Western individualism and self-expression. HOK (East) restrained women’s masculinity within beauty, elegance, and sexualization, reflecting Eastern harmony and tradition. The analysis reveals that both games often represent women as masculine primarily through weapon elements. Moreover, both games also often represent sexualized femininity, but HOK has a higher degree of sexualized femininity than WR. Eventually, it is concluded that both games have a mix of femininity and masculinity in representing women. WR often challenges Western traditional gender norms, reinforcing more modern Western gender expectations, while HOK still tends to reinforce Eastern traditional gender norms even though some character designs also challenge Eastern traditional gender norms. However, both still share similarities about how weapons become significant masculine performativity. While the difference is that WR provides more progressive and inclusive woman representation compared to HOK that tend to align with stereotypical and traditional gender norms.
