This internship report details my two months experience at PT Anak Hebat Indonesia from January 20th to March 15th, 2025. The internship focused on translating The History of Philosophy in Islam by T.J. de Boer from English into Indonesian, a scholarly work of over 60,000 words exploring the evolution of Islamic philosophical thought. I also edited an Indonesian translation of Utilitarianism by John Stuart Mill to ensure consistency and readability. Throughout the internship, I faced challenges translating dense philosophical terminology and abstract concepts lacking direct Indonesian equivalents. To address these, I applied Nida and Taber’s (1969) translation model, consisting analysis, transfer, and restructuring, to maintain conceptual accuracy. Regular consultations with my conceptor helped resolve complex terms and ensure adherence to the publisher’s house style. I also conducted deep research using resources such as the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, KBBI, and major English dictionaries to select precise equivalents. This internship enhanced my technical translation skills, deepened my understanding of philosophical concepts, and improved my time management abilities. The experience provided valuable insights into professional publishing workflows and strengthened my readiness for a career in translation and publishing industry. Overall, the internship was instrumental in honing my ability to produce accurate, acceptable, and readable translations of academic texts.
