This report highlights the translation and media production activities I undertook at Metta Solo FM from January 22nd to April 22nd, 2025, as part of the English Diploma Program’s internship/KMM (Kuliah Magang Mahasiswa). This internship aimed to apply academic knowledge of language and translation in a professional broadcasting environment and develop skills in media communication. The internship involved translating a variety of text types, including entertainment press releases, such as Car Seat Headrest Announce the [YP1] Scholars and Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, and Gracie Abrams Debut 'Call Me When You Break Up', and local news articles like Tingkatkan Keamanan Kota, Respati Akan Keluarkan SE Integrasi CCTV Milik Swasta ke TMC Polresta. These texts required translation from English to Indonesian and vice versa. During these translation tasks, I encountered various linguistic and cultural challenges, such as idiomatic expressions, uncommon terminology like "apocryphal poem," and culturally specific phrases such as "musim mudik lebaran[YP2] ." To address these challenges, I applied several translation techniques, including dynamic equivalence, amplification, established equivalent, and borrowing. I followed the translation process stages outlined by Nida and Taber (1969), which include analysis, transfer, and restructuring. For instance, the source text was analysed for its difficult words and context, and then translated into contextually meaningful expressions in the target text by applying the translation strategy. The target text was subsequently restructured to match the style and tone of the target audience. The final texts were expected to be accurate, fluent, and suitable for publication in MettaNEWS. During the internship, I also participated in content creation, research, event coordination, and documentation. I was involved in writing short scripts for radio segments, transcribing audio content from VOA, preparing interview questions, and supporting outdoor events such as Car Free Day and Imlek Run 2025. These experiences significantly enhanced my media literacy, teamwork, and time management skills. This internship provided not only practical experience in translation but also exposure to the fast-paced world of broadcasting. The integration of translation and media tasks gave me a deeper appreciation of language use in public communication. The challenges I faced during the internship became opportunities for personal development and professional readiness.
