The Student Internship Activity (KMM) at Translexi was conducted from January 20 to April 11, 2025, as an initiative to develop students practical competencies in the fields of translation and professional linguistic services. The core of this report is by detailing the practical application of translation theories proposed by Nida and Taber in 1982, encompassing analysis, transfer, and restructuring stages. The internship involved translating nonfiction texts such as a public figure’s profile and an essay on medical ethics, as well as a fiction text like a children’s storybook. Throughout the process, various translation strategies were applied, such as adaptation, amplification, borrowing, literal translation, and modulation, to ensure linguistic accuracy and cultural appropriateness. Several challenges were encountered during the internship. One significant difficulty was handling culturally specific terms and expressions that had no direct equivalents in the target language, which required careful cultural adaptation and occasional amplification to preserve meaning. Another challenge involved maintaining consistency and accuracy across complex terminologies, particularly in medical ethics texts, demanding thorough terminology management. To address these issues, the translator employed a computer-assisted translation CAT Tool, such as memoQ, which facilitated effective terminology management, translation memory reuse, and quality assurance checks. Additionally, adaptive problem-solving strategies, such as consulting subject-matter experts and conducting extensive contextual research, were applied to resolve ambiguities and ensure translation fidelity. This internship experience illustrates how theoretical frameworks are operationalized in professional practice and highlights the importance of integrating technology and adaptive strategies in overcoming translation challenges. The insights gained contribute to an understanding of dynamic translation workflows and the development of practical skills for professional translators.
