study explains the development of a multidimensional model of entrepreneurial

leadership, which includes role (ELR), skill (ELS), and behavior (ELB), aspects

that have often been examined separately in relation to innovative behavior

(IB). Furthermore, the study enriches the model by incorporating intellectual agility (IA) as

a mediating variable and self-image

goals (SIG) as a moderating variable. This research employs

an explanatory approach with the object of study being Private Universities

(PTS), specifically permanent lecturers under the Higher Education Service

Institute (LLDIKTI) Region II, covering South Sumatra, Lampung, Bengkulu, and

Bangka Belitung. The sample consists of 398 permanent lecturers selected using

purposive multi-stage sampling techniques. Variable indicators were adopted

from previous studies: ELR, ELS, and ELB from Bagheri and Harrison (2020), IB from

Den Hertog et al. (2010), IA from Chen et al. (2002) and Engstrom et al.

(2003), and SIG from Ashford (1986) and Yuan & Woodman (2010). Data

analysis was conducted using SEM-PLS version 3. The

results show that ELR and ELS have significant effects on innovative behavior,

while ELB does not. Intellectual agility partially mediates the relationships

of ELR, ELS, and ELB with innovative behavior. Self-image goals weaken the

relationship between ELR and innovative behavior, but do not moderate the

relationships of ELS and ELB with innovative behavior. The findings highlight

the importance of strengthening the roles and skills of entrepreneurial

leadership among PTS leaders (rectors, deans, and department heads) to foster

an environment conducive to innovation. Moreover, enhancing lecturers’

intellectual agility is essential for addressing the increasingly complex

dynamics of higher education. Additionally, managing self-image goals is

necessary to prevent them from becoming psychological barriers that hinder

lecturers in expressing innovative behavior
