This study investigated the role of Conjunctive Relations (CR) in shaping the structure and coherence of news and feature articles about the Ducati Lenovo Team MotoGP 2025, published on Crash.net. Utilizing the Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) framework, the research examined the forms, meanings, and functions of CR and their contribution to the development of phases and stages in journalistic texts. The objectives were threefold: to identify the forms, meanings, and functions of CR; to delineate the phases and stages in news and feature texts; and to analyze how CR influenced their structural development. The methodology employed a four-stage SFL-based analysis—domain, taxonomic, componential, and cultural theme analysis—to categorize texts, classify CR types (conjunctions, continuatives, logical metaphors), and interpret their role in text coherence. Findings revealed that news texts primarily exhibited soft news characteristics, using internal conjunctions in a Headline-Lead-Arguments structure, with some adopting a hybrid Headline-Lead-Events format that incorporated argumentative content. Feature texts followed a Headline-Orientation-Arguments-Closing structure, integrating explanatory and recount microgenres to enhance persuasion and engagement. CR conveyed meanings of addition, comparison, time, and consequence, facilitating rhetorical architecture across genres. This study underscored the critical role of CR in constructing coherent and engaging sports journalism, offering insights into the linguistic strategies of motorsport discourse and contributing to the understanding of genre hybridity in digital media.
