Socio-pragmatic Analysis of Sarah Churchill’s and Abigail Hill’s Politeness Strategies and Characterizations to Reveal Their Characters in Film Entitled The Favourite. This thesis aims to identify the original characters of Sarah Churchill and Abigial Hill in the film The Favourite. This aims to identify based on the development of the use of politeness strategies and characterization from orientation, complication, resolution, to evaluation. This study uses a qualitative descriptive design with a single embedded case study. The data sources are politeness strategies and characterizations from Sarah Churchill to the Queen Anne and Abigail Hill to the Queen Anne. Data were collected in relation to genre analysis and sociopragmatic theory, especially politeness strategies along with characterization. We tested the data using four steps of analysis: domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis, and cultural theme analysis. This study demonstrates that in four stages—orientation, complication, resolution, and evaluation—Sarah Churchill's character development is predominantly straightforward, utilizing bald on record, which results in positive characterization. Conversely, Abigail Hill employs more polite strategies, specifically positive and negative politeness, leading to negative characterization.
