ABSTRACT Stroke is a serious healthy issue for people. Nowadays, mortality rate for stroke in dr. Moewardi public hospital is quite increasing. For those who survive, most likely that experiencing physical disability with various stages. One of funct ional defect which due to stroke is dement ia. Aim for this study was to understand the relationship between stroke subtypes and dement ia occurrence on post-stroke pat ient in dr. Moewardi Public Hospital. This study was observational analyt ic with Cross Sectional approaches. This study was held in ward and polyclinic of Department Neurology in dr. Moewardi Public Hospital on April to May 2009. Sampling was done by random technique using interview instrument that is MMSE questionnaire and Hechinsky's Ischemic Score. Tot al sample was 60 pat ient s consist of 30 post-stroke ischemic pat ient s and 30 post-stroke hemorrhagic pat ient s. All data was analyzed with Chi-Square test. After the study on 30 samples of post-stroke ischemic pat ient s we found that 11 pat ients (18.33 %) with dement ia and 19 pat ient s (31.67 %) which not experiencing dement ia. Whereas among those 30 samples post-stroke hemorrhagic patients, we found 21 patients (35 %) with dement ia and 9 pat ient s (15 %) did not have dementia. Result calculat ion with Chi-Square method (X2 ) count = 6.696. Whereas Chi- Square (X2 ) table (0.05:1) = 3.841.
