× Abstrak This research focuses on the transcendentalism values. The study emphasizes to answer two research questions. First, what are Christopher Johnson McCandless’ transcendentalism values as reflected in Sean Penn’s Into the Wild? Second, how are Christopher Johnson McCandless’ transcendentalism values as reflected in Sean Penn’s Into the Wild? In order to achieve the goals of the research, the researcher analyzed the research using semiotics film theory and observing with sociological and philosophical approaches. The main source of data in this research is Sean Penn’s Into the Wild that was produced by Paramount Vantage in 1997.The main data of this research were the content of the movie encompassing the characters and characterizations, dialogue, Mise-en-Scène, camera angles, and other cinematographic elements which contains the transcendentalism values. While, the supporting data were the ideas, thoughts, and opinions taken from production notes, articles, essays, biography, and other materials related to the research questions. Based on the data analysis, the researcher draws conclusion as follows: Christopher Johnson McCandless in Senn Pean’s Into the Wild reflects the transcendentalism values i.e to live in simplicity and close to nature, believe that everything is Divine, have own self-image and self-reliance, oppose oppressions. Christopher Johnson McCandless’ transcendentalism values can be revealed through his dialogue with other characters, quotes, expressions. In addition, it also can be revealed from Mise-en-scène and cinematographic elements, such as camera angle and shot.
